At the height of quarantine, so many people decided to use the time they now had for things they didn’t prioritize before. Many finally got around to painting, home improvements, gardening, and even baking. At one point there was even a shortage on not only toilet paper and bleach, but also flour and yeast. It seemed that many would learn how to make breads and pastries from the comfort of their own home. Throughout the pandemic Stephanie was one of those people. She scored a 25 pound bag of sugar and flour at a local costco and went on to Facebook to reach out to the community for anyone who had yeast to spare. From there, came failed attempts of French macaroons, baguettes, rum cakes and more. But she did learn how to perfect making challah bread, sugar cookies, working with buttercream, and experimenting with designs.

Imagine waking up on a quiet Sunday morning, the sun is out, & you’ve just grabbed a coffee or tea and decide to enjoy the moment all to yourself. Sweet Like Sundays was born out of this feeling. Stephanie created Sweet Like Sundays so others can not only experience her journey in learning more about pastry making, but as a way to also give back and sell her creations. A percentage is taken from each sale towards an organization of Stephanie’s choosing. For the month of February, during Black History Month, she donated 20% of sales to We Dream in Black. An organization that aims to strengthen and expand the power and voices of Black domestic workers and amplify their contributions to a healthy multiracial and economically just society for all. Her model is to highlight different organizations through sales to not only educate and expose the community to them, but also for a way to collectively give towards that organization.
